The Artist
Costanza Papàsogli Tacca
Costanza Papasogli Tacca was born in Pisa in 1980. After high school she enrolled at the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Florence in 1999, and studied with professor and painter Giulietti. She spent two years there and in 2001 left to begin her studies at The Florence Academy of Art. She completed the three-year diploma in Painting in 2004, and 4th year of specialization in 2005. In the same year she participated in the First Annual Alumni Exhibition at the Corsini family stables in Florence.

Masques et Identités Cachées
My artistic practice lies at the intersection of figurative painting and a contemporary exploration of identity. Through portraiture, I explore the face not as a stable representation, but as a surface in transformation, shaped by layers of memory, adaptation, and tension.
Portfolio
My work is based on the idea that, from childhood, individuals develop forms of adjustment — “masks” — that allow them to adapt to their environment. These structures, initially protective, gradually become filters through which the perception of the self is constructed. Painting therefore becomes a space of exploration: I layer, alter, and erase the material in order to reveal an unstable, fragmented, and constantly evolving identity.
I visually express these layers of individual personality by creating my portraits on different layers of materials, so that the image of the individual becomes, in reality, a juxtaposition of images created on different mediums.
The female figure lies at the center of my work, which questions the perfection historically imposed on women by society. She is no longer presented as an ideal and flawless image, but as a real presence, shaped by fragility, strength, and authenticity. Through this research, the often invisible violence endured by many women also emerges. My portraits therefore seek to restore a complex and authentic female figure, freed from stereotypes and reconnected to her deeper identity.
